Home Insurance for You & Your Family

Throughout the country, Homeowners insurance rates have risen due to the increase in the frequency and severity of losses, particularly involving weather-related events such as wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, and other hazards, and higher labor and material costs for repairs and rebuilding. Working with an insurance agency with access to various options is essential to providing you with the coverage you need.

Olson Duncan understands that your home is one of, if not the most significant investment, you make and can help ensure it’s properly protected.

Safeguarding Against Risk

We will review your policy to ensure that the structure and contents of your home are properly valued so that your coverage is aligned in the event of a loss. We will also evaluate your liability exposure to properly protect your assets with Liability coverage. In addition, we will review any additional enhancements you may need to extend coverage beyond the basic limits for valuable items such as jewelry and artwork.

We will also review your exposure to earthquakes and floods so that you understand the policies needed to cover your home in the event of damage resulting from either event. Homeowners insurance excludes both damage from earthquake and flood.

Inside Homeowners Insurance

Whether you own a house, a condominium, or a townhouse, we can provide Homeowners insurance to protect you and your family. A typical home policy includes:

  • Dwelling Coverage: Pays to repair or rebuild the structure of your home for perils covered under the policy. We recommend the structure be insured on a replacement cost basis to ensure your home is rebuilt to the same standards used in the original construction. The quality of materials will be the same, and your house will look as close as possible to what it was before the loss.
  • Other Structures: Pays for structures that are detached from the home such as a garage, shed, or gazebo. The typical policy includes 10% of the dwelling amount, which can be increased if needed.
  • Your Personal Contents: This includes coverage for furniture, clothes, kitchen appliances, etc. We also recommend that you have replacement cost coverage on the personal contents in your home. Make an inventory of your contents (written, pictures, or video) to help determine if you have enough coverage. It’s also invaluable after a loss to help identify the missing or destroyed property.
  • Additional Living Expense: This coverage provides additional living expenses when you cannot live in your home due to a covered loss.
  • Personal Liability: Protects you in the event of a lawsuit brought against you or covered family members if someone, for example, is injured on your property. The coverage is worldwide and includes defense and actual judgments – up to the policy’s limit.

We will also discuss purchasing a Personal Umbrella Liability policy with you to extend the liability amounts in your Homeowners insurance so that you are well protected in the event of a catastrophic accident on your property.

Our staff can also assist you if you rent or lease a home, condominium, townhouse, or apartment.
