Inside the Personal Auto Policy

An Automobile policy typically includes:

• Bodily Injury Liability: Coverage applies to injuries that you, or others covered under the policy, cause to someone else.
• Property Damage Liability: Coverage applies to damage caused by you or other covered persons to the property of others.
• Medical Payments: Pays for treatment of injuries to the driver and passengers of the policyholder’s car.
• Collision: Takes repairing your vehicle when it is damaged in an accident.
• Comprehensive (Other Than Collision): Pays for loss due to your vehicle for events other than collision. Types of losses that fall under Comprehensive coverage include fire, theft, vandalism, windstorm, earthquake or contact with an animal, such as a deer or bird.
• Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage: Pays you or other persons covered for negligence caused by someone who does not have insurance or does not have enough insurance to pay for your total loss.
• Uninsured Motorist Property Damage: Pays for repairs to your car when a negligent uninsured motorist damages it. If you have Collision coverage it will waive your deductible and repair your car.
• Rental Reimbursement and Towing: Pays for renting a car when your vehicle is disabled due to an accident and will tow your disabled car and offer some minor roadside services. These two are optional coverages with limits and coverage varying between companies.
